Learn how to pick the right spiral notebook for daily notes, with tips on size, paper, binding, and cover durability.
Quick answer
For everyday note-taking, choose a spiral notebook with a durable cover, 100 lined pages, and a 6" x 9" size for portability.
Size and portability
A 6" x 9" notebook strikes a good balance between writing space and portability. It fits in most bags and is comfortable to use on a desk or your lap.
Paper and binding
Look for 100 pages of lined paper for ample daily notes. Spiral binding with black wire coils is sturdy and allows the notebook to lay flat, which is helpful when you're writing near the edge.
Cover durability
A triple-thick cover protects your notes from wear and tear. If you toss your notebook in a backpack, a sturdy cover prevents bent pages and damage.
Decision rules for your everyday notebook
- How many pages do you need?: If you take notes daily, 100 pages is a solid starting point. For lighter use, fewer pages might suffice, but a thicker notebook lasts longer.
- Do you carry it in a bag?: Choose a notebook with a sturdy cover (triple-thick) to protect pages from bending or tearing. A flexible cover may not hold up in a packed bag.
- Do you need to write on both sides?: Spiral binding with wire coils lets the notebook lay flat, making it easier to write near the spine. Avoid glue-bound notebooks if you plan to use every inch of paper.
